LG has just launched the LG StanbyME Go, a 27-inch wireless touchscreen display that can be tilted and rotated up to 90 degrees, with support for height adjustments of up to 18cm. Aside from being able to be rotated horizontally and vertically, the LG StanbyME Go also offers table mode and customised board games for users to play with.

LG StanbyME Go

The LG StanbyME Go comes with a display, stand and 20W speaker that are all snugly contained within a carry case that draws inspiration from the traditional briefcase. Turning on the display is as simple as opening up the carry case, which automatically boots up the touchscreen display. Accessories like a remote control and power cables can also be stored in the carry case.

According to LG, the StanbyME Go has passed 11 U.S. Department of Defense durability tests, which means the device will be resistant to low pressure, high temperature, low temperature, dust, vibration, salt spray, shock, and drops.

Being a wireless display, the LG StanbyME Go comes with a built-in battery that provides up to three hours of use and ensures that it can be used anywhere without the need for an active power source.

There is also voice recognition support for hands-free operation on the device, allowing users to change volumes and channels through audio cues.

The LG StanbyME Go is priced at 1.17 million won (US$885) and will be available from 7 June 2023

The post Disney’s ‘Cinderella’ Gets Horror Movie Makeover With ‘Cinderella’s Curse’ appeared first on Geek Culture.

Retellings of classic fairytales are nothing new, with Disney themselves often releasing 3D or live-action versions of their classic films such as The Lion King and most recently, The Little Mermaid

This time, Disney’s beloved princess Cinderella will also be getting a new live-action movie. Though this version will take on a more sinister twist, as it has been announced that the new film will be a horror movie titled Cinderella’s Curse.

Cinderella’s Curse will be directed by Louisa Warren and written by Harry Boxley, on behalf of ChampDog Films (Tooth Fairy, Cannibal Cabin). Though not much is known about the film at the moment, Warren promises that the film will feature “an incredibly unique spin on the Cinderella we all love and know.”

“There are going to be some truly horrific deaths by her hands,” she adds in her interview with Bloody Disgusting

With that little tidbit, I think we can safely assume that Cinderella will be taking on more of a slasher-like role in her new film as compared to being a scullery maid. Perhaps some revenge will be enacted on her evil stepmother and stepsisters? We will just have to wait and see.

To be fair, the original source material did have some pretty gruesome features, such as the stepsisters mutilating their feet to fit into Cinderella’s glass slipper and even getting their eyes pecked out by the end of the story so perhaps a horror movie retelling isn’t too farfetched after all.

Fortunately, we will not have to wait for long as the film is slated to be released on 23 October. The cast for the film includes the likes of Kelly Rian Sanson, Chrissie Wunna, and Danielle Scott.

XVI might just be the final number in the series!

Final Fantasy

First released in Japan in 1987, Final Fantasy is one of the longest-running game series still in production. Its titles span multiple numbers across the past few decades with popular titles such as Final Fantasy 7 receiving a remake in 2020.

Geek Interview: Final Fantasy 16 Yoshida Naoki (2)

However, having so many Final Fantasy titles with numbers can get confusing over time and it is a point brought up by Final Fantasy XVI’s producer Naoki Yoshida in an interview with GQ.

Yoshida noted how new players might come in and be confused by the numbers on the Final Fantasy games. “A lot of players are going to come in and they’re going to look at it like a comic book where you have to read from the beginning to know what’s going on now.”

Yoshida added that it is then on the marketing team to ensure that players know they do not, in fact, necessarily have to play every game in the franchise to understand what is happening in the game.

When further asked if he had ever considered ditching the numbers entirely, he responded, “That’s actually something that I’ve discussed with the higher-ups. Maybe it’s about time we removed the numbers from the title.”

“You get a new player coming in and it’s like, ‘Wait a minute, why do I have to play Final Fantasy 14 if 16 is out?’ Why don’t we just call it Final Fantasy Online – just get rid of the number altogether, and that’ll make it easier to understand.”

Naoki Yoshida pointed out in his interview with GQ

According to Yoshida, for future titles such as Final Fantasy 17 or 18, it will ultimately be up to game developers working on those games to decide if they wish to keep the numbers or not.

Final Fantasy XVI is slated to launch on 22 June for PlayStation 5.

Haven’t Logged Into Google Recently? Inactive Accounts Will Soon Be Deleted https://geekculture.co/google-deletes-inactive-accounts/ Thu, 18 May 2023 07:53:54 +0000 https://geekculture.co/?p=263542

Time to revive your inactive accounts before they're gone.

The post Haven’t Logged Into Google Recently? Inactive Accounts Will Soon Be Deleted appeared first on Geek Culture.

]]>

If you have a Google account you have not logged into for a long while, now is a good time to log into your account or you might risk losing your account (and all its stored content) forever.

Google has just announced changes to its inactive account policies which will start rolling out in December 2023. This gives the company the authority to delete accounts that have been inactive for two years. Google has stated that when an account is deleted, its data from services such as Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar, YouTube and Google Photos will also be removed.

google inactive accounts

Google has cited security risks as a reason for the purge on inactive accounts, stating that inactive accounts are more likely to be compromised and used for malicious reasons such as identity theft.

“These accounts are often vulnerable, and once an account is compromised, it can be used for anything from identity theft to a vector for unwanted or even malicious content, like spam.”

Google Vice President of Product Management Ruth Kricheli reports.

This move has certainly caused unrest among some, who worry that old videos from inactive accounts might be deleted. Videos such as ‘Me at the zoo’, the very first video uploaded to YouTube by its co-founder Jawed Karim, the 18 year old clip remains the only video on Jawed’s account.

Thankfully, in an article by 9to5Google, a Google spokesperson has stated that at this time, the company currently has no plans to delete accounts with YouTube videos. It remains to be seen how long it will take till Google decides to also start purging old inactive YouTube accounts.

google inactive accounts

Google states that when they do start deleting accounts from December 2023, a “phased approach starting with accounts that were created and never used again” will be taken. The company will also send multiple notices to the primary and recovery email of the account holder months in advance, to give them time to log back into their account.

However, just in case, we advise you to log back into your old inactive accounts earlier rather than later to ensure you get to keep the precious contents stored in your accounts.

CES 2021: ASUS Introduces ROG XG Mobile External GPU & Flow X13 Convertible Gaming Laptop For Untethered Desktop Performance https://geekculture.co/ces-2021-asus-introduces-the-rog-xg-mobile-external-gpu-and-flow-x13-convertible-gaming-laptop-for-untethered-desktop-gaming-performance/ Tue, 12 Jan 2021 18:55:00 +0000 https://geekculture.co/?p=175838

It's time to power up your gaming.

The post CES 2021: ASUS Introduces ROG XG Mobile External GPU & Flow X13 Convertible Gaming Laptop For Untethered Desktop Performance appeared first on Geek Culture.

]]>

With each passing year, technology is constantly evolving and advancing forward. Just last year, ASUS released the ZenBook Flip S and Flip 13, portable 2-in-1 convertible laptops that come in sleek displays and pack a punch with its performance.

This time, ASUS is back with its very first 2-in-1 convertible gaming laptop, the ROG Flow X13, and the ROG XG Mobile, an innovative external GPU that helps to increase the Flow X13’s gaming capabilities and connectivity. With the XG Mobile, gamers can enjoy desktop-like gaming powers on a gaming laptop.

It is the most versatile gaming laptop in the world, being able to serve as an uncompromised tablet, powerful conventional gaming laptop with its built in GPU, and even provide desktop gaming power with its XG Mobile external GPU,” said Peter Chang, General Manager of ASUS APAC.

The Flow X13 comes in a 13-inch body with a 360-degree hinge that allows the laptop to be converted into a tablet to maximise the viewing and interactive experience with the Flow X13’s touchscreen display. Customers can also choose between either a 120Hz Full HD display for smoother gameplay, or a Ultra HD 4K option better suited for content creators and artists.

Depending on the task at hand, users can choose to either have the laptop in its standard mode for serious gaming and general daily multitasking, or in tablet mode to make it easier to swipe throw content, take down notes, or draw on the screen with the ASUS Pen or other compatible active stylus. The touchscreen display of the Flow X13 uses Corning Gorilla Glass, making it resistant to small scratches from everyday use.

The 360-degree hinge also allows the laptop to be in stand mode which brings the display closer to the user, as well as tent mode which is great for video consumption. These positions also help to provide a better airflow to the Flow X13’s fans, thus helping to keep its temperature low even after prolonged use.

Weighing only 1.3kg and measuring 15.8mm, the Flow X13 is also incredibly slim and lightweight to be brought around and comes with a battery that lets it run for up to 10 hours of video playback. Powering Flow X13 is the AMD Ryzen 9 CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads, to help ensure the laptop is more than capable of powering through demanding workloads, as well as a GeForce GTX 1650 GPU.

As with most other ASUS laptops, the Flow X13 also comes with an ErgoLift hinge to provide users with a more ergonomic typing experience on the laptop’s edge-to-edge keyboard.

Since the first external GPU was introduced by ASUS in 2007, the Taiwanese tech giant has constantly improved and is now introducing the XG Mobile with a streamlined design that offers an innovative way to bring desktop-like gaming performances to ultra-portable laptops.

The XG Mobile weighs only 1kg and is 6% the size of other external GPUs on the market despite featuring a top-of-the-line NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU. It also comes with a vapor chamber cooling system to help maximise thermal transfer to the heatsink fins for rapid heat dissipation.

The XG Mobile is able to connect directly to the Flow X13’s CPU through a custom PCIe 3.0 x8 interface that’s faster than Thunderbolt 4. This custom interface is able to dedicate bandwidth specifically for graphics, resulting in higher graphics performance than other external GPUs out there.

The XG Mobile can also function as a multi-port hub, with four USB Type A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a SD card slot, a Gigabit Ethernet port, a DisplayPort 1.4 and a HDMI 2.0a display output. What’s more, the XG Mobile comes with an integrated 280W power adaptor that is capable of supplying power to both the XG Mobile and the laptop simultaneously.

Of course, the Flow X13 is no slouch itself with regards to connectivity. It comes with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port that supports both Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.4. As well as a HDMI 2.0b port to allow for other displays to be connected, a USB 3.2 gen 2 Type-A port and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Details on the ROG Flow X13 and XG Mobile’s price and availability will be announced at a later date.

2020 has definitely been a strong year for ASUS, who released a number of notable gaming and productivity laptops and desktops, such as the ExpertBook B9450 and ProArt StudioBook Pro X

This time, ASUS is back to wow customers once again with its brand new lineup of gaming laptops for 2021. From laptops with super-fast displays to duo-screen displays, there’s a gaming laptop here for everyone.

Without further ado, here are ASUS’ new gaming laptops for 2021.

ROG Strix Scar 15 & 17

A display with a fast refresh rate can sometimes make the difference between a win or a loss in competitive matches, where even a slight millisecond of lag can spell defeat at the hands of the enemy. Which is where ASUS Republic of Gamers comes in with the new Strix Scar 15 and Strix Scar 17. The laptop boasts the world’s fastest laptop display, with a 360Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time, all powered by powerful new GeForce RTX GPU and Ryzen 9 mobile processors.

The Strix Scar 15 and 17 are also the first Strix laptops to utilise optical-mechanical keyboards, which are capable of delivering both rapid response and high durability. This way, users won’t have to worry about their laptops when button mashing during a match. It also carries a quad Dolby Atmos speaker setup to help give players an even more immersive gaming experience, with a Two-Way AI Noise Cancellation feature to make team chats even clearer. Furthermore, the Strix Scar 15 and 17 will also come with a 90Wh battery that supports USB-C power delivery 3.0 of up to 100W.

TUF Dash F15

Gamers who are looking for a gaming laptop that can deliver excellent performance whilst not burning a big hole in their wallet could always count on ASUS’ TUF gaming laptops and the TUF Dash F15 is no different. According to ASUS, the newest addition to the TUF series is a super slim 15-inch device that is built to “empower more gamers with the ability to game, work, and stay productive anywhere” with its portable and lightweight frame.

The TUF Dash F15 is only 19.9mm thin and weighs 2kg, making it lighter and thinner than the standard TUF Gaming laptop, all whilst still meeting military-grade durability standards. With the latest 11th generation Intel Tiger Lake Core processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs, the TUF Dash F15 is more than capable of powering intensive tasks from gaming to streaming. It even has room for up to a 32GB of DDR4-3200 RAM for multitasking and content creation. The laptop comes with a 76Wh battery which ASUS says is capable of providing users with up to 16.6hrs of continuous video playback time. And when the laptop does run out of battery, you can charge it up to 50% in under 30 minutes with its new fast-charging technology.

ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE

In 2020, ASUS announced the very first ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 with a secondary screen that allows users more flexibility when it comes to various tasks such as gaming, productivity, and content creation. Now, ASUS is back with the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE which comes with even more useful custom interfaces that ASUS has developed in conjunction with various game, streaming and creative software developers to give users an advantage be it in game or in work.

The Zephyrus Duo 15 SE comes with an upgraded 15.6-inch main display that comes in either a 120Hz 4K UHD or a 300Hz FHD display option, with a 14.1-inch ROG ScreenPad Plus in either a UHD (3840×1100) or FHD (1920 x 550) display option. Each Zephyrus Duo 15 SE will also come with a quad Dolby Atmos speaker set up for an immersive gaming experience and are powered by AMD Ryzen 9 CPU processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU to help power through graphic intensive work such as video editing, 3D rendering, and intensive multitasking.

There you have it, ASUS’ three new gaming laptops for 2021. More details on the availability for each laptop as well as the price will be made available at a later date.

The Wrap recently published an article regarding Ray Fisher’s Cyborg being written out of The Flash movie. In response to that, Fisher himself has taken to Twitter to refute the claims, calling it “factually inaccurate”.

The Wrap’s report came not long after Fisher announced that he will not be involved in any work related to DC Films President Walter Hamada. Fisher went on to state that Joss Whedon’s departure from HBO’s The Nevers was due to the Justice League investigation regarding misconduct allegations, and that Geoff Johns will soon “be following suit”.

As of now, there is no indication if Johns will be stepping down from Stargirl on The CW, where he is serving as the series co-creator and showrunner. Fisher ended his Twitter thread on the topic promising to keep his fans posted, and thank them for their continued support.

Rowan Atkinson Involved In Development Of New Mr Bean Animated Movie https://geekculture.co/rowan-atkinson-involved-in-development-of-new-mr-bean-animated-movie/ Fri, 08 Jan 2021 08:17:36 +0000 https://geekculture.co/?p=176174

Though this might be his last run as the Bean.

The post Rowan Atkinson Involved In Development Of New Mr Bean Animated Movie appeared first on Geek Culture.

Rowan Atkinson will be revisiting one of his most iconic character, Mr Bean, in a new animated movie for the character.

Atkinson first announced this in an interview with Radio Times where he revealed that he’s currently “in the foothills” of making the movie. Contrary to what some might think, the English actor also revealed that playing Mr Bean is not as fun as it might seem.

“It’s easier for me to perform the character vocally than visually,” said Atkinson (via Deadline). “I don’t much enjoy playing him. The weight of responsibility is not pleasant. I find it stressful and exhausting and I look forward to the end of it.”

As such, an animated film will be a much easier responsibility for Atkinson to manage. Having the film take on an animated form will also make it easier for the production team to develop and release the movie sooner, unlike its live-action counterparts that have been experiencing pandemic-induced delays.

With Atkinson’s attitude towards Mr Bean being the way it is, it seems unlikely for the actor to return to the role after this animated movie. However, fans of the character need not despair as Atkinson’s potential departure does not necessarily spell the end of the franchise.

Other actors can always be brought on to portray the character, but it just won’t carry the same charm as Atkinson’s portrayal of Mr Bean.

More antics from the Asgardian God of Mischief incoming.

The post Loki Season 2 Reportedly Already In The Works At Disney+ appeared first on Geek Culture.

]]>

It seems there are plans for a Loki season two, even before the show’s first season has aired on Disney+.

In an article by Deadline, it was reported that Loki showrunner and lead writer Michael Waldron has signed a new deal with Disney, with part of the deal including writing for Kevin Feige’s as-of-yet untitled Star Wars movie, first announced in 2019. The deal also includes bringing Waldron back “in some capacity for Season 2 of Loki”.

When Marvel first announced its slate of original Disney+ shows, many assumed that the shows would be one-off shows that will tie directly into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s library of films. As it turns out, the Loki series starring Tom Hiddleston might actually be an ongoing show. Which raises the possibility of other Marvel shows like WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier also potentially receiving second seasons.

Not much is known about Loki’s second season as Marvel and Disney have yet to formally announce that a season two is in the works. But it is still exciting to know that we’ll have more than one season to watch Hiddleston wreak havoc as the God of Mischief.

More action-packed basketball plays incoming.

After receiving new illustrations in 2020 and recently being voted as the third most popular manga series in Japan, Slam Dunk will finally be returning with a new movie, 26 years since the last film in 1995.

News of the Slam Dunk movie came from none other than Inoue Takehiko himself, the manga artist behind the popular basketball manga series.

Not much else is known about the movie as of yet but we imagine it won’t take too long for more information to be shared. In any case, this is definitely a cause for celebration for fans of the series who have been eagerly awaiting new content.

Slam Dunk follows Hanamichi Sakuragi, a delinquent who joins his school’s basketball team in hopes of impressing the girl of his dreams, only to realise that he has actually come to love the sport. Since the manga’s release in 1990, it has been so well received that it got an anime adaptation in 1993, with several film adaptations in the years that followed.

Taiwan has even chosen to air episodes of the anime in place of its cancelled NBA game. Now that is impressive.

This, coupled with its 3:2 aspect ratio, helps to give users a near-borderless, more immersive viewing experience. A simple click is all you need to have the camera pop up for your Zoom meetings. If you are worried about unflattering angles with the recessed camera, you can simply prop the laptop onto a stand to have the camera face you at a higher angle.

An important factor of any ultra-portable laptop is battery life, and the Huawei MateBook 14 comes with a 56W battery that is able to support up to 10 hours of 1080p video playback on a single charge. If you do need to charge the laptop, its USB-C port supports fast charging, so you can get up to 50 per cent battery charge after around 30 minutes of charging. Users can also toggle between the Balanced and High-Energy performance modes to optimise the laptop’s performance to meet their needs.

As for connectivity, the MateBook 14 comes with a USB-C charging port, an HDMI port, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Nintendo has announced that it will be acquiring the video game development company Next Level Games, better known for being the developer behind Luigi’s Mansion 3 and its predecessor, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon

News of the acquisition came via Nintendo’s website where it’s stated that the deal between the two companies is expected to close on 1 March 2021. According to the statement, Nintendo’s acquisition of Next Level Games will help to “facilitate an anticipated improvement in development speed and quality by enabling closer communication and exchange of staff with the Nintendo development team”.

Prior to Luigi’s Mansion, Nintendo had worked with the Canada-based developer on Super Mario Strikers for the Gamecube way back in 2005. Since then, the studio has worked on games such as Mario Strikers Charged and Punch-Out!!! for the Nintendo Wii, and Metroid Prime: Federation Force for the Nintendo 3DS.

For fans of Luigi’s Mansion and Mario Strikers, this news will be an exciting one, as it likely means that more titles from Next Level Games might be on the horizon, it might even be a sequel to Super Mario Strikers.

Attack on Titan Manga Ends In April 2021 After 11 Years https://geekculture.co/attack-on-titan-manga-ends-in-april-2021-after-11-years/ Wed, 06 Jan 2021 03:01:02 +0000 https://geekculture.co/?p=175787

It's been a long time coming.

The post Attack on Titan Manga Ends In April 2021 After 11 Years appeared first on Geek Culture.

After 11 years of publication, it has been announced that the Attack on Titan manga will soon be coming to a close.

Kodansha (via Anime News Network), the publishing company behind Bessatsu Shonen Magazine that Attack on Titan is released on, announced that manga artist Hajime Isayama will be ending his Attack on Titan series in the Magazine’s May issue on 9 April 2021.

Meanwhile, the manga’s final 34th volume will be shipped on 9 June.

Alongside the confirmation of the series’ final chapter is a statement by Isayama.

“I’ve been saying for the last eight years that I’d finish [Attack on Titan] in three years, and finally, it seems like it will be completed,” Isayama said. “It’s been a very long time coming, but I hope you’ll stick with me until the end. The editorial team never rushed me to finish the series, but I’ve been continually asked when will it end?’ Thank you for waiting for me. I will do my best until the last page so you will feel satisfied with what you’ve read.”

Attack on Titan is set in an alternate world besieged by giant, man-eating monsters known as Titans and the series centres around the young protagonist Eren Yeager as he joins the Survey Corps to one day enact vengeance on titans after he witnesses his mother being killed by one.

The series first released in 2009 and received enough popularity that it got an anime adaptation in 2013. The Attack on Titan anime is currently in its fourth season, and as things stand, it seems likely that it will be wrapping up around the same time as the manga. It’ll definitely be a bittersweet moment for fans this April.
