Retellings of classic fairytales are nothing new, with Disney themselves often releasing 3D or live-action versions of their classic films such as The Lion King and most recently, The Little Mermaid.
This time, Disney’s beloved princess Cinderella will also be getting a new live-action movie. Though this version will take on a more sinister twist, as it has been announced that the new film will be a horror movie titled Cinderella’s Curse.
Cinderella’s Curse will be directed by Louisa Warren and written by Harry Boxley, on behalf of ChampDog Films (Tooth Fairy, Cannibal Cabin). Though not much is known about the film at the moment, Warren promises that the film will feature “an incredibly unique spin on the Cinderella we all love and know.”
“There are going to be some truly horrific deaths by her hands,” she adds in her interview with Bloody Disgusting.
With that little tidbit, I think we can safely assume that Cinderella will be taking on more of a slasher-like role in her new film as compared to being a scullery maid. Perhaps some revenge will be enacted on her evil stepmother and stepsisters? We will just have to wait and see.
To be fair, the original source material did have some pretty gruesome features, such as the stepsisters mutilating their feet to fit into Cinderella’s glass slipper and even getting their eyes pecked out by the end of the story so perhaps a horror movie retelling isn’t too farfetched after all.
Fortunately, we will not have to wait for long as the film is slated to be released on 23 October. The cast for the film includes the likes of Kelly Rian Sanson, Chrissie Wunna, and Danielle Scott.
