After 85 years of protecting Gotham, Batman is nowhere near retirement, and Hollywood knows it. The Dark Knight will be the first superhero to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, 26 September, announced DC in a press release, along with a Guinness World Record for that same feat.

Batman is set to receive the 2790th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and his star will be located next to the stars of Adam West, who acted in the 1966 Batman TV series, and the co-creator of Batman, Bob Kane. Batman will show up at the ceremony to receive his star in front of the Hollywood Guinness World Records Museum, with a special presentation by official adjudicator Michael Empric to welcome the character into the Walk of Fame.

A fan event will be held on the same day, and the first 100 fans who purchase a Batman-related product at Funko Hollywood are also entitled to a meet-and-greet signing session with DC Comics president and Batman comic book artist Jim Lee. Other activities include a Batman-themed pop-up at Funko Hollywood, featuring costumes and props from Batman’s history in film and TV, with more details to follow.

Since the character’s first appearance in 1939’s Detective Comics #27, Batman has gone on to become one of DC’s most well-loved superheroes. There’s plenty more to come in future Batman projects, including the upcoming The Penguin TV series on HBO Max, as well as a sequel to 2022’s The Batman, so fans have plenty to look forward to.

Vault Hunters, get ready to blast your way through another exciting adventure! Borderlands 4 has landed a 2025 release announcement at Gamescom 2024, accompanied by an enigmatic teaser trailer.

While not much was revealed in the short teaser, fans have been anticipating the game’s release since Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford recently hinted again at a fourth game in development, and now we have a conclusive answer. Borderlands 4 will see players assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they blast their way through hordes of enemies in search of new treasures to loot on an all-new planet, with Pitchford stating that this next installment will “take the game to new levels in exciting new directions.”

With the Borderlands movie failing to impress at the box office, perhaps the franchise hopes to win its players over with a new game instead. Borderlands 4 will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC in 2025, and you can check out the game’s Steam page, which is now live.

Top 10 Phase 4 Post-Credits Scenes Still Waiting To Be Addressed In The Marvel Cinematic Universe https://geekculture.co/top-10-phase-4-post-credits-scenes-still-waiting-to-be-addressed-in-the-mcu/ Fri, 28 Jun 2024 17:09:11 +0000 https://geekculture.co/?p=295789

Which post-credit scene were you most hyped for?

The post Top 10 Phase 4 Post-Credits Scenes Still Waiting To Be Addressed In The Marvel Cinematic Universe appeared first on Geek Culture.

]]>

While post-credit scenes in movies aren’t new, the current phenomenon of including them in films can be traced back to 2008’s Iron Man, when the post-credits in the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) teased the formation of the Avengers, after Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) asked Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) if he’s aware of the Avengers Initiative.

Basically, these scenes serve mainly to set up subsequent movies, though some are used as punchlines and one-off references. For the most part, the MCU has done an incredible job in setting things up for the future… until it didn’t. The current Phase 5 of the MCU is coming to an end in mid-2025, but the post-credits in the previous Phase 4 movies have raised more questions than answers, as most, if not all, of the post-credit scenes have yet to be addressed. As fans, we’re still waiting for the payoff on some of them, and are still wondering about certain scenes that had implications for multiple characters, but have never came up again.

Here are our top 10.

1. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)

In the mid-credits scene of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) meet with Wong (Benedict Wong), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), and Katy Chen (Awkwafina) via holograms to observe the Ten Rings and discuss its origin, and the group discover that the rings are sending a message. Meanwhile, Xu Xialing (Meng’er Zhang) takes her father’s spot as leader of the Ten Rings organization, accompanied by Razor Fist (Florian Munteanu) and Jon Jon (Ronny Chieng).

While the movie was a huge hit, Shang-Chi and Katy have not appeared in any other MCU films, despite having met the Avengers. More importantly, the mythical power of the Ten Rings, which grant its wielder enhanced strength and immortality, and has even unleashed a powerful shockwave, have yet to be referenced again. With Shang-Chi as the current wielder of the Ten Rings, there’s plenty of room in the MCU for them to show up though neither has.

There hasn’t been any huge news of a Shang-Chi sequel for years despite the first one being a hit, though Simu Liu recently reassured fans it was ‘happening’, so why the long wait?

2. Eternals (2021)

After the rest of the Eternals were abducted by Arishem the Judge, Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), Druig (Barry Keoghan), and Thena (Angelina Jolie) are adrift in space on the Domo. They encounter Eros (Harry Styles), who, in the comics, is the brother of Thanos, and his troll companion Pip (Patton Oswalt), who claims to know where the rest of their allies are.

Meanwhile, Dane Whitman (Kit Harington) reluctantly opens a case containing an ancient enchanted sword, and is suddenly called away by an off-screen voice.

There has been speculation that events in Eternals occur on Earth in another reality but the sword Whitman revealed is the Ebony Blade and he’s destined to become the Black Knight. And that off-camera voice belongs to Blade (Mahershala Ali) and while the Blade film is currently stuck in development hell, there are no other indications of an alternate reality setting. So what do both these post credits link to? No one knows.

Let’s ignore the fact that this film revealed that Tiamut the Communicator’s gigantic stone hand emerged in the middle of the Indian Ocean, but aside from a throwaway reference in Disney+’s She-Hulk, there has been no direct mention of any resulting impact from its appearance in the MCU, despite the government’s strong interference with anomaly related phenomena. The film ended up being a box-office disappointment, placing similarly to the Marvels in the MCU’s lowest grossing revenue stats. Meanwhile, the Eternals have not been sighted since, and Marvel has conveniently forgotten about their existence.

3. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

Venom’s Eddie Brock drinks at a bar, discussing the Avengers, Thanos, and the Snap with a bartender. Brock and Venom consider finding Spider-Man; however, both of them are suddenly transported back to their universe by Doctor Strange’s spell. A small remnant of the Venom symbiote is left behind on the counter table, which could have bigger consequences for the MCU.

With the final Venom movie coming out this year, we might get some answers, but it would be the MCU’s last chance to address this post-credit scene, whether as an integral part of the plot, or as a plot point that was resolved before the start of Venom: The Last Dance. Yes, the recent trailer for this movie seemingly references the symbiote remnant, but Sony’s Spider-Man universe of films aren’s known for their logical narratives to the MCU.

4. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)

At the end of the Multiverse of Madness, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is confronted by Clea (Charlize Theron) about a multiversal incursion that he caused, and she opens a portal to the Dark Dimension and the two decide to put an end to it. Given how recent Multiverse of Madness was, this is likely setup for the next film, though it has not been announced on Marvel’s release calendar.

Fans may not have been happy with the other cameos in that film, but how do you add Charlize Theron into the MCU and do nothing about it? If Doctor Strange makes an appearance in Avengers 5 (which Cumberbatch infers that he’s filming), we could get the payoff to this post-credits scene soon enough.

5. Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)

Thor: Love and Thunder introduces the Greek gods with Zeus (Russell Crowe), and the end of the film sees Zeus send out his son, Hercules (Brett Goldstein), to kill Thor for disgracing his image. Which isn’t a plot we haven’t seen before, and the god-killing storyline seems repetitive at this point, but what’s the deal with Hercules? There’s no news of a fifth Thor movie, even though Furiosa director George Miller looks open to helming it, and given Chris Hemsworth’s willingness to return, it seems like a given even though it’ll be a while before we see this coda touched on, if any.

6. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

The death of Chadwick Boseman was a huge loss to Hollwyood and to the MCU, and that loss was incredibly apparent in the Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever. After taking over the mantle held by her brother, T’Challa, Shuri saves the day and the post-credits has her meet her brother’s ex-girlfriend, Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) in Haiti. Nakia presents her son Toussaint and when Shuri says she can keep secrets, Toussaint reveals that his true name is T’Challa, after his father.

The younger T’Challa’s reveal switches things up once again, and either him or Shuri could take on the mantle of Black Panther. The inclusion of Riri, aka Ironheart (Dominique Thorne) in the film indicates her story could continue those plot threads, as she was a central character in Wakanda Forever, and closely connected with Shuri. But so far, these has been little news of her Disney+ series.

7. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)

Guardians of the Galaxy

Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) spends the morning enjoying breakfast with his grandfather on Earth, who is reading a paper about Kevin Bacon’s abduction from Earth. This is actually a callback to the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which saw Drax (Dave Bautista) abduct Kevin Bacon as a Christmas present, wrapping up in the series in a humorous way. But more importantly, the scene ended with a title card saying that ‘The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return’, instead of the usual Guardians crew.

Meanwhile, out in space, Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), Kraglin (Sean Gunn), Cosmo (Maria Bakalova), Adam (Will Poulter), and Phyla (Ming-Na Wen) suit up for a mission in a mid-credits scene, which could hint at a new incarnation of the Guardians of the Galaxy. But with series architect James Gunn moving over to DC Studios and Warner Brothers, there hasn’t been talk of another Guardians movie or project yet. Where Peter or his friends will pop up next is anyone’s guess.

8. WandaVision (2021)

post-credits marvel

WandaVision flipped the script in a creative way in 2021, giving the Marvel TV series a show-within-a-show format. And in its last moments, the show revealed the existence of Wanda’s (Elizabeth Olsen) true cyborg lover, White Vision (Paul Bettany). But this version of The Vision wasn’t created by Wanda, as he/it first showed up in Westview in a mid-credits scene in Episode 8 of the series, battling Wanda and eventually having his memories restored.

Four years later, White Vision still hasn’t shown up anywhere else, though there has been a recent announcement that Paul Bettany will return in a Disney+ Vision series, which could provide some answers.

9. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (2021)

post-credits marvel

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier ended with The Power Broker, Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), getting her pardon and contacting a mysterious agent, as well as introducing Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), who John Walker (Wyatt Russell) aka U.S. Agent now works for. Contessa has appeared in Phase Five of the MCU, in Black Widow (2017) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), but John Walker has not made another appearance since.

It’s likely this is setup for the next Captain America film and that’s why it hasn’t been addressed, but Sharon Carter and John Walker working together could pose a significant threat for the new Captain America. Given that Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts are premiering in 2025, it will offer some closure for fans.

10. Moon Knight (2022)

post-credits marvel

In the end credits of Disney+’s Moon Knight series, Jake Lockley, Marc Spector’s third alter ego who is still bound to Khonshu, appears, proceeding to execute cult leader Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) before driving away, hinting at a far more dangerous third party. Despite this revelation, it looks like Moon Knight’s mysteries will remain unsolved, as star Oscar Isaac only signed a one-season deal, and the MCU has largely steered clear of making any further references to the show.

BONUS: PHASE 5

1. The Marvels (2023)

post-credits marvel

After Monica Rambeau’s (Teyonah Parris) apparent death from sacrificing herself at the end of The Marvels, she wakes up in the hospital wing of the X-Mansion to see Binary (Lashana Lynch) sitting by her side. Binary bears a striking similarity to her deceased mother, and Rambeau is relieved to see the person she believes to be her mother still alive. Until Beast (Kelsey Grammer)walks in and informs Rambeau that she’s landed in another universe, much to her surprise.

As far as the cast of The Marvels knows, Monica is presumed dead, but she was actually transported to another universe where the X-Men exist. There likely won’t be a second sequel as this film ended up becoming one of the MCU’s lowest-grossing films. Nothing has been addressed so far although fans are hopeful for a potential Marvel/X-Men crossover in the upcoming Deadpool Vs. Wolverine

2. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2021)

post-credits marvel

In a plot that was meant to serve as foreshadowing for the now-scrapped Avengers: The Kang Dynasty aka Avengers 5 film, the Council of Kangs, led by Immortus, Rama-Tut and Centurion (all played by Jonathan Majors) meet in the wake of Kang the Conqueror’s death as they fear the tampering of the Multiverse will lead to their destruction. Or at least, that was supposed to become a larger plot thread until Majors was convicted on assault charges, and Marvel fired him. This meant writing Kang out of the MCU for now and the second season of Loki addresses this by handwaving away the events of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, neatly wrapping up the conundrum in a case file, saying the situation has been “handled”.

With Avengers 5 no longer being titled The Kang Dynasty, it seems that Marvel wants to conveniently explain away what could’ve been a feature-length plot, so this plot thread will likely remain a mystery for the foreseeable future.

The '80s movie hits are back.

The post These 10 Iconic ‘80s Franchises Are Making A Return In 2024 And Beyond appeared first on Geek Culture.

]]>

Ask any movie fan, critic, aficionado and lover about the best year for movies and you’ll get a string of divisive answers, but ask them about the best decade for films and there’s only one era worth mentioning – the ‘80s.

Sure, the first Star Wars and Star Trek movies came out in 1977 and 1979, but the best sequels – The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (1982) arrived in the ‘80s. The 1980s also introduced some of the best cinema 7 franchises, several of which are still producing sequels, including Friday the 13th (1980), Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), First Blood (1982), Ghostbusters (1984), Beverly Hills Cop (1984), The Terminator (1984), Gremlins (1984), The Karate Kid (1984), Back to the Future (1985), Lethal Weapon (1987), Predator (1987), Die Hard (1988)… the list goes on and 44 years later, the same phenomenon is making a resurgence, as popular and iconic 80s’ franchises are getting remakes, reboots and even sequels.

Here are some of the most prominent 80s franchises making a return, almost five decades later. Mind you, we are referring to new movies or shows that are coming out, so 80s fixtures that have already had a recent sequel (Top Gun: Maverick) or revival (Cobra Kai) don’t count. Kinda.

Also, some of these are premiering soon, while others have been announced, though premiere dates have not been revealed.

1) Original – Alien (1979)

Sequel – Alien: Romulus (2024)
Prequel – Alien (FX, 2025)

80s franchises

Okay, so we’re stretching it here since the original Alien was released in 1979 but if you think about it, the sequel is just as good, if not superior, and Aliens was released in 1986. Since then, there have been two more sequels, followed by a crossover with the Predator franchise that produced two Aliens vs. Predator films, followed by a two-film prequel series by original director Ridley Scott.

And in 2024, a new movie, Alien: Romulus, is on the horizon, starring Cailee Spaeny (Civil War), David Jonsson (Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (Madame Web), Spike Fearn (Back to Black), and Aileen Wu. Directed by Evil Dead director Fede Álvarez, this new entry is one you won’t want to miss, and a new trailer was recently released, giving viewers a glimpse at more terrifying action.

Concurrently, a streaming series on FX, written and directed by Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion), is also in development, with two seasons on the way. The series, starring Sydney Chandler (Don’t Worry Darling), Alex Lawther (The End of the F***ing World) and Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger), is set three decades before the events of the 1979 original and serve as a prequel.

2) Original – He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983)

Live-Action – Masters of the Universe (Amazon, 2026)

80s franchises

One of the most popular morning cartoons back in the day, the adventures of He-Man has been retold and rebooted several times over on TV, in comics and videos games, and more recent, there was the 2024 Netflix animated sequel to the original, Masters of the Universe: Revolution. While there was a live-action film in 1987, starring Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV), a reboot film has been in development hell for an extended period of time, with Netflix the last partner slated to make one, before abandoning the project in 2023..

But justice prevails and He-Man will see a second live-action film after Amazon took over the project, with a film expected to arrive in 2016, starring Nicholas Galitzine (Red, White, & Royal Blue) as Prince Adam aka He-Man, from Bumblebee director Travis Knight.

3) Original –Ghostbusters (1984)

Revival – Ghostbusters (Netflix, Announced)

80s franchises

If there’s one thing Ghostbuster knows, it’s that nothing truly ever dies and can live on forever. The franchise recently scored two sequels to the original duology…. Ah, we did say current films don’t count, except that there’s still something strange in the neighbourhood… so who ya’ gonna call in 2024? Ghostbusters!

After busting an ice age in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the crew are suiting up for an animated series, which will have a similar vibe to the 80’s cartoons. The animated series is in production and will land on Netflix.

4) Original – The Terminator (1984)

Revival – Terminator Zero (Netflix, 2024)

80s franchises

In the words of The Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger), “I’ll be back.” and without fail, the killing machine from the future is making his return. While Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) saw the famed actor’s last appearance, the rise of the consumer machines has ensured that the franchise lives on.

An animated series, Terminator Zero, will premiere on Netflix in August 2024, following scientist Malcolm Lee working on a new AI system designed to compete with Skynet’s impending attack on humanity, as a soldier is sent back in time to change the fate of humanity, and the duo are hunted by an unrelenting assassin from the future.

Written by The Batman (2022) writer Mattson Tomlin and voiced by Timothy Olyphant (Justified) and Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka), the revival is hopefully enough to bring the franchise a step closer to its former popularity.

5) Original – Beverly Hills Cop (1984)

Sequel – Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024)

80s franchises

We know. The folks working at Netflix must have grown up in the 80s, and are revisiting franchises to bring back! Up next is Eddie Murphy (Shrek) as the wise-cracking cop, Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, which is coming out on 3 July, and centres around Axel returning to Beverly Hills after his daughter’s life is threatened.

With the imminent release of this long-awaited sequel, there’s also talk of a potential Berverly Hill Cop 5.

6) Original – The Karate Kid (1984)

Sequel – Cobra Kai Season 6 (2024 – 2025), Karate Kid (2025)

80s franchises

We said no mention of Cobra Kai, but while the popular series and sequel to the original trilogy is concluding (Cobra Kai VI is set to premiere on Netflix, with fifteen episodes released in three parts of five episodes each), there’s also the new Karate Kid movie arriving in 2025, which serves as a sequel to the 2010 movie starring Jackie Chan.

The interesting thing is that Chan’s film was originally conceived as a reboot to the franchise until last year, when it was retroactively decided that it was a sequel after all, and Jonathan Entwistle will direct a new sequel that would bring original star Ralph Macchio, who plays protagonist Daniel La Russo, alongside Jackie Chan as Mr. Han.

Joined by screenwriter Rob Lieber, it also stars Sadie Stanley (Kim Possible), Ming-Na Wen (The Mandalorian), Aramis Knight (Ender’s Game), Wyatt Oleff (It) and Jennifer-Lyn Christie.

7) Original – Highlander (1986)

Reboot – Highlander (Announced)

80s franchises

Highlander might not have gotten the reception it intended when it was original released, but it, together with the sequel, became cult classics, and the fantasy franchise will be taking one more swing with a reboot starring Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, The Witcher), and directed by Chad Stahelski (John Wick).

Filming is expected to begin in 2024, with more casting announcements to follow.

8) Original – Predator (1987)

Sequel – Badlands (Announced)

80s franchises

The Predator franchise is roaring back to life after the success of 2022’s prequel, Prey, from director Dan Trachtenberg. A new standalone film, Badlands, is in the works, starring Elle Fanning (Maleficent).

With this on the horizon, as well as a sequel to Prey also in development, it looks like the Predator is set to make another killing in Hollywood.

9) Original – Beetlejuice (1988)

Sequel – Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)

80s franchises

Say his name three times, and he’ll appear. Cult classic Beetlejuice was a hit when it was released in the 80s, and in September 2024, Beetlejuice is back in a sequel to cause more chaos. The film brings back original 80s film actors Michael Keaton, and Winona Ryder, and it looks like they haven’t aged a day.

Will there be a third Beetlejuice film to complete the ritual? Regardless, it’ll be a spooky fun time.

10) Original – The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988)

Reboot – The Naked Gun (2025)

80s franchises

Popular 80’s comedy franchise Naked Gun is making a comeback in 2025, with an upcoming film directed by Akiva Schaffer (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping), starring Liam Neeson (Taken), Kevin Durand (Abigail) and Liza Koshy (Players), among other celebrities. There’s been widespread interest in the reboot, and it looks like we won’t have to wait that long to see the shenanigans that Neeson gets involved with this time.

Bonus! Original – Top Gun (1986)

Sequel – Top Gun 3 (Announced)

80s franchises

Top Gun took 80s’ audiences into the Danger Zone with an action-packed film that catapulted a young Tom Cruise into international stardom, and its 2022 sequel managed to take flight once more, with Tom Cruise returning to the pilot’s seat, alongside newcomer Miles Teller (Fantastic Four).

The sequel grossed over US$1,493 billion, which practically guaranteed that another sequel will be made and Top Gun 3 is currently in development, so fans of the franchise can look forward to even more high-octane stunts.

A long-overdue update.

The post Steam Gets An Official New Controller Launching In Japan appeared first on Geek Culture.

]]>

A new Steam official controller is on the horizon, close to five years after Valve discontinued the Steam Controller, which was deemed a commercial failure when it made a commercial loss of over US$4 million. But this time, it won’t be from Valve, and instead, controller and arcade stick manufacturer Hori is taking up the gauntlet with the Wireless Horipad for Steam.

wireless horipad for steam

The controller brings over some features from the Steam Deck, with a matching button theme and touch sensors. Hori’s controller design resembles more traditional controllers unlike its predecessor, which had a trackpad instead of a joystick. The Horipad also has dedicated buttons to pull up the access menu or Big Picture Mode overlay, making navigation even more convenient.

Simply connect the controller over Bluetooth or a USB wire, and you’re good to go, and if you’re playing over a wired connection, the controller works with non-Steam games on Windows. All features can be customised with a desktop app, and the controller comes in four colours: neon yellow, purple, black or white.

Currently, the Horipad is only available in Japan, but it’s likely that it’ll retail in other markets soon enough. For now, it goes at ¥7,980 (S$67.32), and preorders are live on Hori’s website.

The Wireless Horipad for Steam launches in Japan on 31 October.

As Netflix’s Terminator Zero anime’s release date draws nearer, the animated series is gearing up for action, announcing its full voice cast, including Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson, Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina), André Holland (Moonlight), and Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), joining Justified star Timothy Olyphant.

Set in 1997 Tokyo, scientist Malcolm Lee works to launch a new AI system, Kokoro, designed to compete with Skynet’s impending attack on humanity, as a soldier is sent back in time to change the fate of humanity and stop Malcolm from launching Kokoro, as the duo are hunted by an unrelenting assassin from the future.

Dawson voices the ethereal AI system Kokoro, Japan’s answer to Skynet, which Malcolm (Holland), a genius computer programmer and father of three, attempts to bring online, but grapples with the dilemma of saving humanity, or dooming it.

‘Star Wars: Bounty Hunter’ Gets Remaster, Includes Boba Fett Skin https://geekculture.co/star-wars-bounty-hunter-gets-remaster-includes-boba-fett-skin/ Fri, 28 Jun 2024 04:40:54 +0000 https://geekculture.co/?p=295695

Maybe the Boba Fett easter egg were the bounties collected along the way.

The post ‘Star Wars: Bounty Hunter’ Gets Remaster, Includes Boba Fett Skin appeared first on Geek Culture.

The year is 2002, and Star Wars: Attack of the Clones was released just months ago. You hear about a new game being released, and as a fan who enjoyed Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett’s introduction to the franchise, you decide to play Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, following the character’s exploits. Being a dedicated Star Wars fan, you notice a peculiar oddity in the game — a low-resolution textured message written in Aurebesh.

star wars: bounty hunter remake

It reads, Cash in all bounties to play as Boba. And your mind is blown, because Boba Fett, Jango Fett’s son and one of the most iconic Star Wars characters, gets to be playable? Now that, is news. So you try everything to unlock that feature, but even cashing in all bounties and hitting 100% on the game yields nothing.

It stays that way for a long time, until 22 years later in 2024, a Star Wars: Bounty Hunter remaster is announced, and this time, fixing its predecessor’s error, you do get to play as Boba Fett after all. This time, instead of playing it on a PlayStation 2, or 4, the game is now available on the PlayStation 5. While the game has been available on the PS4 for a long time, it has not been remastered with additional features until now.

Here’s hoping developer Aspyr can redeem themselves after the disastrous remaster of the Battlefront Classic Collection, which fans heavily critiqued after being plagued by bugs and crashes at launch.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter gets a modern upgrade, taking full advantage of the DualSense wireless controller technology. When you equip a weapon, the console’s integrated adaptive triggers make each weapon feel unique, and voice comms will play over the controller’s speakers, immersing you in the moment. Even the light bar on the console represents Jango’s health bar, so you’ll know if you need to heal up.

star wars: bounty hunter remake

With the game’s maps rendered in even more depth and texture, dynamic lighting, and a new flashlight feature, there’s never been as good an opportunity to relive the game once more, or discover it for the first time.

To unlock Boba Fett’s skin, you’ll have to do exactly what was written on that wall at the time: cash in all bounties to play as Boba, and the skin will automatically unlock. It’s likely been two decades since you’ve played the game. Perhaps you’re thinking of going back, just to claim your final bounty. It feels like a payoff you didn’t know you needed.

The Star Wars: Bounty Hunter remaster releases on 1 August 2024 on the PS5 and PS4.

Magic: The Gathering (MTG), one of the most popular strategy card games by Hasbro-owned publisher, Wizards of the Coast (WotC), constantly puts out collectible cards with illustrated designs, but there’s a whole other side to the game that serious collectors are in the know about – when Magic meets licensing, and releases a series of exclusive card drops that can disappear quicker than the snap of your fingers.

MTG Secret Lair Street Fighter

Known as Secret Lair, these officially licensed Magic: The Gathering cards are rare because WotC only ever releases them once, never to be repeated again. They have been released with greater fanfare over the years, crossing properties and genres that you might not link to strategy cards, from virtual singer Hatsune Miku to streaming sensation Stranger Things.

The moral of the story? If you come across it, do yourself a favour and pick them up if it catches your fancy, mainly from WotC’s Secret Lair website. And if you don’t play MTG, here are some things about the Secret Lair drops you should be aware of.

1 ) Availability: Starting from 2024, Secret Lair changed its production model for most products. Instead of printing on demand, they will have limited print runs. This means faster shipping times, but some popular items may sell out. They will use past sales data to estimate demand and ensure most players get what they want. There might still be a few exceptions with the old print-on-demand model.

2) Secret Lair cards are legal for play, but only within Magic: The Gathering Eternal formats, which are Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Pauper. You can still use these cards in tournaments with these categories, as most Secret Lair cards are re-skins of existing cards with some exceptions, but it’s best to check in with tournament organizations.

3) Universes Beyond: The Secret Lair cards are part of MTG’s Universes Beyond line, which is a sub-brand of the main MTG line and exists alongside it. Media tie-in cards are usually part of the Universes Beyond category, but they are considered non-canon to the Magic lore.

4) Booster/Commander/Draft sets: MTG Booster sets supplement your existing deck, depending on what kind of build you’re going for. A set booster has 12 playable cards, while a draft booster has 15, and a commander deck has 100 cards.

5) Superdrop/Secretversary: Every season, Secret Lair releases a new wave of drops in Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter, with different media tie–ins each time. And on SecretVersary, an annual drop with the most epic releases, that’s usually when Secret Lair goes all out with releasing even more cards.

Here are our picks for 10 of the most epic Secret Lair drops in history.

1. Secret Lair X The Walking Dead (2020)

The Walking Dead Secret Lair drop switched up the formula, with previously released cards being reskins of already existing cards with alternate art, but not this time. This Secret Lair drop was the first time mechanically unique cards were introduced, with Rick, Daryl, Glenn, Michonne, and Negan being the featured characters, having different abilities that switched up the game. The drop also came with five Zombie tokens, each an important walker from the show, and one Treasure token.

2. The Godzilla Lands (2020)

Who doesn’t love Godzilla? In this Secret Lair drop, Godzilla stomps its way through five different landscapes, which naturally, represents land cards. If you look closely, you’ll spot characters from the franchise in the card backgrounds, like the Mothra twins and a showdown between Godzilla and Hedorah. What’s interesting about this drop is that it was released in collaboration with Godzilla’s rights owner, Toho Corporation, and were only on sale for 24 hours.

3. Secret Lair x Stranger Things (2021)

secret lair drops

If the kids from Netflix’s supernatural series Stranger Things had picked up Magic: The Gathering instead of WotC’s Dungeons & Dragons, what would they look like as MTG cards? The Stranger Things Secret Lair Superdrop of October 2021 featured the Hawkins crew in a series of mechanically unique cards, and of course, Eleven gets to be a mage, along with the Mind Flayer getting a card of its own. A Clue Token was also included with the drop, which lets players sacrifice an artifact to draw a card.

4. Secret Lair x Street Fighter (2022)

Street Fighter’s legendary World Warriors fought their way into the MTG universe in a February 2022 superdrop, which featured the original eight fighters on cards with unique mechanics relating to their in-game abilities. A bonus Hadoken card was also a re-skin of the Lightning Bolt card, which deals 3 damage to any target. So you can fireball your way to victory but now with style.

5. Transformers: Optimus Prime vs. Megatron (2022)

December 2022’s Secret Lair release featured three Transformers drops, with land cards representing Cybertron’s various locations, an Optimus Prime vs. Megatron set, and six re-skinned spell cards with art featuring various Autobots and Decepticons.

What’s unique about these cards is that both sides of each card have the same rules text but different art, allowing you to choose their look as they enter the fray. The front and back sides of each card in the Optimus Prime vs. Megatron set form a panorama, which is pretty cool even if you’re just displaying them.

Featuring the Reversible Borderless Blightsteel Colossus as “Megatron”, Reversible Borderless Darksteel Colossus as “Optimus Prime”, and the Reversible Borderless Doubling Cube as “The AllSpark”, the set is one of the most epic Transformers drops yet.

6. Secret Lair X Fortnite (2022)

This might be a surprising development to some, but yes, official Secret Lair x Fortnite cards exist, despite the younger demographic skew of the video game. The game’s vibrant environments are turned into reskinned cards with alternate art, which offer a fun alternative for fans of both the card game and the hit video game.

The set included Wrath of God as “Shrinking Storm”, Dance of Many as “Dance Battle”
Etherium Sculptor as “Supply Llama”, Grim Tutor as “Crack the Vault”, Triumph of the Hordes as “Battle Royale”, Smuggler’s Copter as “Battle Bus”, and Planar Bridge as “The Cube”.

7. Secret Lair X Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)

secret lair drops

There is no denying the similarities between WotC’s Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, so it’s no surprise that both properties have collaborated plenty of times in the past. Their most recent collaboration brings characters from the 2023 Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie into the MTG universe. Each card is mechanically unique, and themed according to the characters they represent, including Xenk, Paladin Unbroken, Simon, Wild Magic Sorcerer, Forge, Neverwinter Charlatan, Holga, Relentless Rager, Doric, Nature’s Warden // Doric, Owlbear Avenger. and Edgin, Larcenous Lutenist.

8. Doctor Who: Regeneration (2023)

secret lair drops

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of British sci-fi icon, Doctor Who, a MTG card series was released. While there have been other Doctor Who MTG card decks in the past, this deck features cards of the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Doctor, who have not appeared in previous Commander decks.

This drop featured mechanically unique cards themed according to Rose Noble, The Celestial Toymaker, The Meep, and the Fourteenth and Fifteen Doctor, along with a surprise bonus card, the Sonic Screwdriver, which let players add one mana of any colour.

9. Secret Lair x Fallout: S.P.E.C.I.A.L. (2024)

secret lair drops

A S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Fallout drop happened this year, in conjunction with Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout TV series release, and each card represents a different Attribute, with accompanying art and abilities. Seven cards were released in this drop, containing the Steelshaper’s Gift, Propaganda, Elixir of Immortality, Council’s Judgment, Idyllic Tutor, Anger, and Lightning Bolt, corresponding to the attributes in order.

The art style was inspired by the Fallout: Shelter mobile game, and the limited-print run was sold out almost immediately, with eager collectors snapping the cards up.

10. Spring Superdrop 2024 (featuring Hatsune Miku: Sakura Superstar)

Vocaloid idol or face of an MTG card, Hatsune Miku can do it all. The Spring Superdrop featured a six-card Miku set which had reprints and skinned cards, showcasing art of Miku in spring-themed outfits. The Hatsune Miku: Sakura Superstar set had illustrators around the world come together to create those six cards, which have Miku in a lightning storm, or among cherry blossoms, bringing her song around Japan.

The featured cards that came with the drop included the Shelter, Chandra’s Ignition as “Miku’s Spark”, Harmonize, Azusa, Lost but Seeking as “Miku, Lost but Singing”, Feather, the Redeemed as “Miku, the Renowned”, and the Inspiring Vantage cards, with a limited purchase amount of 5 cards per customer, and sold out lightning fast.

Bonus: Secretversary 2023 (featuring Jurassic World: Dr. Ian Malcolm )

secret lair drops

Life finds a way. Secretversary 2024 had fan favourite Jurassic Park character Dr. Ian Malcolm in an MTG set of his own, with iconic illustrated scenes (yes, including that shirtless moment) from the original movie as four reskinned cards and an egg token. The cards included reskinned versions of the Laboratory Maniac, Tasha’s Hideous Laughter, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, and Atla Palani, Nest Tender.

Also accompanying the Jurassic Park theme was a companion Jurassic World: Life Breaks Free set, which featured escaped dinosaurs – the fearsome Tyrannosaurus Rex, along with the terrifying Spinosaurus, Velociraptor, Indominus Rex, and a gentle Triceratops card to balance it out.

The respective reskins included Etali, Primal Storm as Tyrannosaurus Rex, Rampaging Ferocidon as the Velociraptor card, a Polyraptor as the Indominus Rex card, a Wayward Swordtooth as the Triceratops card, and a Regisaur Alpha as the Spinosaurus card.

In a move long-awaited by gamers, you can finally record your game playthroughs from Steam itself instead of using third-party apps, as Valve announced a new game recording feature that is currently in beta testing.

Steam in-game recording

The new feature works with any game and is Steam Deck verified, so you can record your games on the go. Switch between two recording modes, letting Steam automatically record your game or pressing a hotkey, and you can even trim your videos with the new software after they are recorded.

Steam in-game recording

And suppose you forget what happened on your last playthrough. In that case, the timeline and event marker feature will automatically generate markers as relevant game events happen, when you take a screenshot. You can manually add markers or add notes to Background Recordings.

What’s unique about the in-game recording feature is that it works with non-Steam games, as long as it’s able to allow the Steam Overlay to run, the gameplay can be recorded. The feature is currently accessible in a beta version by going to Steam’s settings and finding the beta update from the interface menu.

Steam in-game recording is a welcome update, and we hope it lives up to its description.

Street Fighter 6 Review Featured

Despite losing its directors, the Street Fighter movie makes a swift recovery, landing a March 2026 release date. The announcement comes after director duo Danny and Michael Philippou (Talk to Me) exited the project just a week ago, but no replacement director was revealed, leaving much to speculation.

street fighter movie

The film has been in development since 2023, with Sony, Legendary Pictures, and Capcom behind the film, only breaking its silence a week ago to announce the departure of its directors. Legendary Entertainment has both the rights to a film and TV deal for the Street Fighter franchise, so there’s still a TV series to look forward to.

It’s been more than 10 years since the last Street Fighter movie in 2009, The Legend of Chun-Li, which was a box office bomb, scoring only 3% on Rotten Tomatoes and being unable to break even against its production budget of US$50 million.

Since its arcade origins in the 80s’, the game franchise has since moved to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, with six games to date and a stacked roster of characters, giving any adaptation a wealth of source material to play with.

But will it be enough to pack a punch when the Street Fighter movie hits theatres on 20 March 2026? Only time will tell.

Amazon’s ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ Drops Explosive First Trailer https://geekculture.co/amazons-batman-caped-crusader-drops-explosive-first-trailer/ Thu, 27 Jun 2024 03:11:21 +0000 https://geekculture.co/?p=295596

Welcome to Gotham City.

The post Amazon’s ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ Drops Explosive First Trailer appeared first on Geek Culture.

]]>

After years of eager anticipation, fans got a first look at Batman: The Animated Series creator Bruce Timm’s newest, R-rated, animated Batman project, Batman: Caped Crusader, which debuted a gritty first trailer.

Welcome to Gotham City, overrun by villains and corrupt politicians. The trailer brought back familiar faces as well as some surprise additions like Two-Face, The Penguin, and Onomatopeia, as Batman takes on darker forces threatening the city. There are explosions galore, and this time, the GCPD plays a bigger role in attempting to stop Batman.

batman: caped crusader

Here’s the show’s synopsis:

Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human — the Batman. His one-man crusade attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.

Batman comic book writer Ed Brubaker also said that the series would see Batman “murdering people up”, with the series having a noir feel and the audience “will also be shocked by some things”, and that Batman: Caped Crusader was “like the show Bruce Timm always wanted to make but that they wouldn’t let him make.”

batman: caped crusader

Helmed by JJ Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Matt Reeves (The Batman), Timm, and Brubaker, Caped Crusader was saved from cancellation after HBO Max originally axed the show, and stars the voice talents of Hamish Linklater (Gen V) as Batman, Diedrich Bader (Harley Quinn) as Harvey Dent, Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets) as Catwoman, and Jamie Chung (Big Hero 6) as Harley Quinn, among other members of the ensemble cast.

Hero or monster to some, Batman becomes something both more and less than human when Batman: Caped Crusader arrives on Amazon Prime Video on 1 August.

Gotta catch all the AI artists.

Trading Card Game Resurgence 2022

The 2024 edition of the Pokémon TCG Illustration Contest is off to a controversial start, and out of its initial 300 finalists, some artists violating the rules will be disqualified and replaced with other artists to move on to the finals. This comes as AI art becomes more prominent in the art scene, and traditional and digital artists have expressed their disappointment that the move didn’t come sooner.

The official X/Twitter account reassured fans that the company was “committed to upholding the integrity of the Pokémon TCG Illustration Contest”, further hinting that the move is a result of the competition’s staff detecting AI art in its entries.

Pokémon TCG Illustration Contest

Most notably, an artist going by the name of “Vigen K” drew internet ire for finding a loophole in the maximum amount of three entries per contestant, submitting six entries under three pseudonyms. Twitter users were quick to point out the inconsistency in styles in Vigen’s work, and that one of their Eevees had Jolteon ears.

While AI art is not explicitly banned in the competition, the rules do state that submissions “must not contain material that violates or infringes another’s rights,” which using AI art violates, as the generative art often mimics the style of artistic work it has collected in its database.

Hopefully this time, the artists that are given the chance to advance to the finals of the Pokémon TCG Illustration Contest are those that truly deserve that honour.

ASUS' latest AI laptop will be out on 5 July.

ASUS Vivobook S 15

Artificial intelligence (AI) PCs are at the forefront of the laptop market, and ASUS continues to lead innovation with the Vivobook S 15. It is the tech giant’s first Copilot+ PC powered by Qualcomm CPU, as well as an offline mode for Microsoft’s Copilot+ AI features. With unparalleled processing speeds powered by the Snapdragon X Elite, it’s a force to be reckoned with.

ASUS Vivobook S 15

Previously, the Vivobook S 16 was ASUS’s first AI PC with a dedicated Copilot key, but the S 15 takes it to a whole new level, adding even more AI features like security motion detection and enhanced video call quality to streamline productivity. The grand reveal comes just after Microsoft announced Copilot+, which will see the AI tool built directly into the PCs hardware, even enabling users to use the generative AI software without an internet connection.

What sets the Vivobook S 15 apart from most PCs in the market is that it is the first to hit 75 TOPS (trillions of operations per second), and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite, a new with built-in Qualcomm Hexagon NPU (neural processing unit), capable of processing images in seconds and handling software-intensive tasks, creating a seamless experience for productivity, creativity, and entertainment without compromising battery life.

It boasts a 15.6-inch ASUS Lumina OLED display, with a high 120Hz refresh rate and 3k display, rendering videos and games in glorious detail. It adds an extra touch of audio quality with Harman Kardon-certified audio. The laptop also comes with 32GB RAM, and 1TB of hard drive storage.

The best part? A full charge will last 18 hours, enabling you to work on the go even without a charger, with a high-capacity 70 Wh battery. Carrying the laptop around is a breeze, as it weighs a mere 1.42kg and is one of ASUS’ thinnest laptops at just 14.7 mm thin.

But what makes it an AI PC? There’s the Windows Studio Effects v2, which enhances lighting and noise removal during video calls in portrait mode, and an AiSense Camera with AI-powered Security, enabling the adaptive lock feature to detect a user’s presence.

ASUS Vivobook S 15

Like the S 16, it now has a dedicated Copilot+ key, which makes accessing Copilot’s AI features, including data analysis and transcription convenient with just a button. But unlike the S 16, it can now access Copilot without an Internet connection, which means that instead of sending your direction and work to the cloud, for centralised processing, the S 16 can handle tasks locally on the device, so you’ll now receive the answers to your questions regardless of connectivity.

And if you need to connect several devices to the laptop, it boasts two USB 4 ports that support fast charging, 4K external displays, and up to 40 Gbps data transfers, along with two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, a microSD card reader, and an audio combo jack.

ASUS Vivobook S 15

A single-zone RGB backlit keyboard with customisable lighting effects lets users set the mood with the laptop’s Dynamic Lighting feature, and comes with an expansive and smart gesture touchpad, which makes navigating without a mouse more convenient than ever.

“As ASUS embarks on this journey, marked by the launch of our first AI PC, we stand at the beginning of a new era of personal computing.” ASUS Co-CEO S.Y. Hsu said, speaking at the Vivobook S 15’s launch event on 21 May.

“The launch of our first ASUS Copilot+ PC powered by Snapdragon X Elite is an important milestone for us, and we believe that these devices are the future of consumer PCs and will drastically change the way we will work, study, create, and play.”

The ASUS Vivobook S 15 retails for S$2,199 and will be available at the ASUS Exclusive Store, online, and all other retailers on 5 July 2024, with pre-orders currently open.

The House always wins.

The post ‘Fallout’ Season 2 Will Feature Important Character From ‘Fallout: New Vegas’ appeared first on Geek Culture.

After Fallout Season 1’s explosive ending with a victory for the Brotherhood of Steel, and Vault-Tec executive Hank MacLean headed for New Vegas in stolen Power Armor, there’s little surprise where Season 2 will be set.

Showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet revealed even more about the upcoming season in a YouTube video with Variety, hinting that the cameo Fallout: New Vegas character Robert House had near the end of the first season wouldn’t be the last appearance of the fan-favourite character.

The Fallout TV series takes place 15 years after the events of Fallout: New Vegas, and nine years after Fallout 4, which could mean that the TV show is canonizing some endings. In the events of Fallout: New Vegas, Mr. House served as one of the game’s antagonists, ruling over New Vegas from a supercomputer deep within the Lucky 38 casino.

In the game’s endings, the player character can choose to kill him, siding with either the New California Republic, Brotherhood of Steel, or Caesar’s Legion. Leaving House alive results in his Securitron army taking control of Hoover Dam and The Strip, and he continues running New Vegas his way, which is likely to be the game ending the show is going with.

“Many of our lead characters are Vegas-bound,” Wagner said in the interview with Variety. “Las Vegas in the world of Fallout is Robert House’s town. Robert House will be involved in season two.”

As the show’s characters grapple with the fallout of the revelations that occurred in Season 1, Season 2 is shaping up to bring even more action and intrigue to the show in New Vegas. Fallout is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Black Adam actor Dwayne Johnson and Captain America actor Chris Evans teaming up in a buddy cop Christmas movie sounds like chaos, and Red One’s new trailer did not disappoint, teasing an adventure filled with shenanigans and comedy.

The trailer switches between action and fantasy as J.K. Simmons’ jacked Santa Claus is kidnapped, leading the North Pole’s Head of Security, Callum Drift (Johnson) to team up with the world’s most infamous bounty hunter, Jack O’ Malley, (Evans) to find him and save Christmas. The duo end up in a facility full of imprisoned fantastical creatures, including the intimidating Krampus (Kristofer Hivju), but chaos soon erupts as these creatures spill into the real world, resulting in abominable snowmen invading a beach.

But there are comedic moments in-between all the action when Callum transforms a Hot Wheels car into a Chevy Corvette, leading Jack to wonder if the same technology could be used on a Wonder Woman figurine. Much to Jack’s disappointment, that is not, in fact, how it works.

Directed by Jumanji : Welcome To The Jungle director Jake Kasdan, the film also stars Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Lucy Liu (Charlie’s Angels), and Bonnie Hunt (Jumanji), among other members of the ensemble cast.

The film’s budget was previously reported to have spiralled to US$250 million due to Johnson’s tardiness during production and other unprofessional antics, which have continued since his work on Fast & Furious.

Red One will open in theatres on 15 November 2024.
