‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Live-Action Project In The Works With ‘True Detective’ And ‘Mr Robot’ Producers

Night City is heading to the real world. CD Projekt Red has announced that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is in the works, with Anonymous Content — the company behind shows like True Detective and Mr Robot, as well as Academy-winning movies such as The Revenant and Spotlight — joining in on the ride.

According to the press release, the adaptation is currently “at an early development stage and has currently commenced searching for a screenwriter to tell a brand-new story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077“. Not much else is known about it, including whether it’d be a film or TV series.

Garrett Kemble, David Levine, Ryan Schwartz and Bard Dorros will produce on behalf of Anonymous Content alongside Charlie Scully. Levine, previously HBO’s EVP and co-head of drama for over 10 years, oversaw production of some big-name shows, such as True Detective, Westworld, and True Blood. The industry veteran was also involved in the production of Game of Thrones‘ early seasons.

CD Projekt Red’s expansion into Hollywood territory isn’t surprising, considering the smashing success of animated spin-off Cyberpunk Edgerunners. The studio’s wish to capture lightning in the bottle yet again is understandable, though it should be noted there are certain nuances between live-action and animation that need to be considered for development. No release date has been set for the Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project.

In the meantime, fans can tide over the wait with the game’s Phantom Liberty DLC. Launched on 26 September, it introduced several new features, including a revamped perk system and improved AI. The team will now shift their focus to The Witcher 4, which is one of the five games being planned for future release. A sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Orion, will be part of the lineup as well.
