The MonsterVerse continues to grow, and a new star is joining in on the kaiju action. Amber Midthunder, of Prey fame, has been cast in Season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which officially began production in August.
According to Variety, the American actress will play the “heavily recurring role” of Isabel, described as “an intelligent and powerful businesswoman”. She joins the returning Season 1 cast that includes Dominique Tipper as Brenda Holland, Anna Sawai as Cate Randa, Joe Tippett as Tim, Kiersey Clemons as May, Ren Watabe as Kentaro, Takehiro Hira as Hiroshi Randa, and more.
Plot details remain under wraps for the sophomore season, but series showrunner and creator Chris Black previously teased that it was “going to be big”. The first season aired on Apple TV+ from November 2023 to January 2024, with no release window announced for Season 2 following a renewal in April this year.
The streamer describes it as follows:
“Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that levelled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later when Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga — spanning three generations — reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.”
Spanning 10 episodes, the show serves as the latest expansion of Legendary Pictures’ live-action MonsterVerse, which consists of Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Next in the Predator film pipeline is Badlands, with Maleficient‘s Elle Fanning attached to the main role.
