Celebrating the 10th anniversary of Alien: Isolation’s release, developer Creative Assembly has announced that its sequel, Alien Isolation 2, is currently in the early stages of development.
The reveal comes courtesy of Al Hope, creative director of the 2014 original, who will be returning to work on the sequel. Here’s his full announcement:
To our fans around the world,
It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years since we embarked on our journey with the release of Alien: Isolation.
When we started developing Alien: Isolation, we had one guiding principle: to create a truly authentic experience that went back to the roots of the Alien franchise—a new story capturing the atmosphere and terror of the original 1979 movie masterpiece.
It’s been nothing short of incredible to witness your passion for the game over the years and see it reach so many players around the world.
On the 10th anniversary, it seems only fitting to let you know that we have heard your distress calls loud and clear.
Today, I’m delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to Alien: Isolation is in early development. We look forward to sharing more details with you when we’re ready.
Once again, thank you.
Originally developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega, Alien Isolation was a survival horror game which put players in the shoes of Ellen Ripley’s daughter Amanda Ripley, who encounters a Xenomorph while aboard the space station Sevastopol.
Designed to resemble the original Alien film rather than its more action-oriented sequels, the game heavily emphasises stealth and survival horror, with Ripley mostly powerless against the alien threat and constantly avoiding the creature as it stalks her around the space station.
Alien: Isolation received positive reviews from players and critics alike, selling over 2 million copies by May 2015. Here’s hoping the sequel will follow in the same vein as its predecessor and provide a heart-pounding second chapter of Ripley’s story.
