Insta360 has launched the ONE RS 1-Inch 360 Edition, a 360-degree camera with dual one-inch sensors and 6K video resolution that is co-engineered with Leica.
The ONE RS 1-Inch 360 is a small device weighing just 239g that seeks to let users capture creative shots that could only traditionally be done with expensive or large shooting rigs. Think a timelapse of the Northern Lights or a virtual tour of a construction site. It promises impressive 6K 360 videos and 21-megapixel photos even in low light conditions.
The camera uses two 1-inch CMOS sensors that give it the dynamic range to capture the world in sharp, true-to-life colours and details from dusk to dawn. The two lenses, along with the camera’s small form factor, let content creators shoot in new creative ways without needing to set a direction to point the camera — since it captures all the action in full panoramic 360 in one take.
Videos can be shot in a range of resolutions, from 6144 x 3072 (25fps) to 3040 x 1520 (50 fps), while photos are taken in 6528 x 3264. Both video and photo mode has an ISO range of 100 to 3200. The camera has a 62-minute use time when shooting at 6K (30fps) when tested in a lab.
With the Insta360 software, you can output your footage either as surround 360 videos or more conventional flat videos. Software algorithms will also help in removing selfie sticks and provide stabilisation and horizon levelling for captured footage, making it easy to capture great, smooth shots without extra equipment or tedious post-processing work.
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in modes such as PureShot HDR increases the dynamic range of your shots to remove additional post-editing work, while Shot Lab lets you automate editing techniques such cloning, dolly zooms and star trails for your social media videos.
For better editing control, it supports Insta360 Studio desktop software or Adobe Premiere Pro, with compatibility with platforms like Matterport and OpenSpace promised in a future software development kit release.
The ONE RS 1-Inch 360 Edition is also rated IPX3, which protects the camera from rain or snow from some angles but is unlikely to survive being submerged for underwater shots. It can operate between -20°C and 40°C and supports up to 1TB V30 rating micoSD cards.
Camera can be controlled via compatible iOS devices that run A11 chips or iOS 11.0 and above, and Android mobile devices running on Kirin 980, Snapdragon 845, Exynos 9810 or Tensor chips and above. Most devices that were launched in the past two years should work.
The Insta360 ONE RS 1-Inch 360 Edition is available now on the Insta360 online store for US$799.99.
