‘Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket’ Locks Oct Release, Opens Pre-Registration For Android And iOS

Mention popular trading card games (TCGs), and Pokémon will most certainly be on the list. The hobby based on the long-running franchise has spawned plenty of competitive challenges over the years, but there’s also a casual element to it — collection, just like how the Pokédex works.

Come 31 October, users of both Android and iOS devices will be able to build their collection and duel digitally with Pokémon TCG Pocket. Those eager to jump into the action can pre-register now on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, with the announcement made during the 2024 Pokémon World Championships held in Honolulu, Hawaii from 16 to 18 August.

This follows an initial reveal during this year’s Pokémon Day, which took place during earlier in February. Touting “exciting new visual effects for cards that are only possible digitally”, the mobile title lets players open two booster packs everyday at no cost, use binders or display boards to showcase their collection, enjoy casual battles alone or with friends, as well as gather cards featuring nostalgic artwork from the past and new designs exclusive to the game.

Pokémon TCG Pocket is launching on 31 October as a free-to-play app, making it more accessible to the general crowd, especially for fans who’ve been wanting to experience the hype. Originally debuted in 1996, the physical card game involves enthusiasts collecting cards spotlighting their favourite critters, building powerful decks, and facing off against opponents in strategic battles.
