Dreamhaven has unveiled the first game from its developer Secret Door — Sunderfolk, a four-player turned-based adventure for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Sunderfolk will be a couch co-op experience inspired by board games and tabletop role-playing games (RPG), described as a “streamlined alternative to the traditional tabletop gaming experience” without the need for additional materials such as rulebooks or physical setups. Players take on the role of one of six classes as they “adventure together through the magical and dangerous Sunderlands”.
In a unique twist, players can use their mobile phones or tablets to control their actions in-game, removing the need for multiple controllers and providing a “new spin on the classic game night experience”.
Studio head Chris Sigaty was a former producer at Blizzard and worked on multiple titles including StarCraft II and Warcraft III. Dreamhaven itself was also formed in 2020 by former Blizzard co-founder Mike Morhaime and encompasses two studios, Secret Door and Moonshot.
“Sunderfolk is a beautiful game, it’s full of personality and charm, and it also creates epic moments where everyone is engaging directly with each other to work out strategies or celebrate victories. There’s nothing quite like it, and we’re really looking forward to seeing what players think,” Morhaime said in the game’s announcement release.
Sunderfolk is currently in development and is slated for a 2025 release for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
