‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Adds Netflix’s ‘The Punisher’ Producer As Showrunner & ‘Loki’ Directors

Daredevil: Born Again‘s new creative team is slowly assembling.

Dario Scardapane will serve as Daredevil: Born Again‘s new showrunner. Scardapane is best known for producing Netflix and Marvel’s The Punisher, a spin-off of the streamer’s Daredevil series.

Despite Scardapane’s involvement, Daredevil: Born Again will not continue the events from the Netflix show. Lead stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will return to their respective roles as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk in the Disney+  series.

Meanwhile, Moon Knight and Loki season two directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead are boarding the project as directors. Outside of Marvel, Benson and Moorhead made festival circuit hits like The Endless, Spring and Synchronic.

The new creative team comes after former head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman were fired after an early assessment revealed that “the show wasn’t working.” In the previewed episodes, Daredevil: Born Again lacked the action and violence that fans knew the Netflix version for. The creative overhaul is meant to move the show into an entirely new direction.

Hiring a showrunner is part of Marvel’s new approach to making television. Up to this point, the studio had made television in the same way it made movies. Shifting to a more traditional TV model may benefit Marvel and hopefully, its new TV projects.

Daredevil: Born Again will consist of 18 episodes. It is unclear if the 18 episodes will span over one or multiple seasons.

Matt Murdock aka Daredevil is one of Marvel’s most popular characters. He was first created in 1964 by Stan Lee and Bill Everett. In the comics, Matt is a blind lawyer whose childhood chemical accident gave him special abilities. After losing his father, he became a highly skilled martial artist too.

Daredevil has since appeared in various forms of media, including several animated series, video games and a Netflix series that ran for three successful seasons. Most recently, he appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
